This study provides valuable insights into the carbon emissions associated with crude oil and gas production in two key regions of the U.S., the Permian Basin (PB) and the Gulf of Mexico (GOM). The findings highlight the variation in carbon intensity between the two regions, shedding light on factors that contribute to deviations in emissions.

Tropical storms severely affect oil and gas production in the Gulf of Mexico, especially during the storm season from June to December. Offshore well managers often need to shut down operations and evacuate the facility because of storm alerts. The purpose of this paper is to determine the effect of storms on production by quantifying metrics such as downtime days and downtime percentage after the storm has passed and whether a facility’s platform type affected these metrics.

Oil&Gas, Production Chemistry, Batch Treatment Program, Murphy Oil Corporation
Economical oil extraction depends largely on reducing wear and tear of downhole equipment and tubulars through regular monitoring and batch treatment to cut the risk of corrosion and costly workovers. Having a data-driven approach to scheduling batch treatment can bring down the frequency of treatment and avoid the unnecessary use of resources.

Routine status reporting often presents a challenge because of its intimidating and time-consuming nature for both employees and supervisors. With large language models, a system was developed to generate coherent artificial-intelligence-driven reports. The goal is to enhance the understanding of overall insights and reduce the time required for individual report reading.

Energy efficiency is crucial for the oil and gas industry, where operational costs and environmental impact are under constant scrutiny. Predicting and managing electrical consumption and peak demand accurately, especially with the variability of weather conditions, is a significant challenge. This work presents a neural network model trained on historical weather and electrical data to forecast electrical consumption, peak demand, and power factor.

Presented by Shayne Chidlaw at an Untapped Energy event in Calgary, AB this session explored the critical role of data historians in operations. With nearly 30 years of experience in Canada’s petroleum industry, Shayne shared her transition from geology to digital systems and offered a practical deep dive into historian implementation. The talk covered real-world use cases in oil and gas, key pitfalls to avoid, and best practices for organizing, integrating, and contextualizing high-frequency sensor data. Attendees gained a clear understanding of how data historians can transform raw operational data into trusted, decision-ready intelligence.

This research developed a clear framework for assessing and selecting fit-for-purpose software. The study focuses on the role of a data-driven approach in the decision process, with application to operational software systems in the oil and gas industry. The software industry is growing rapidly, and companies are creating and deploying products to help accomplish everyday activities and strategic goals. There is a constant need to evaluate “buy vs. build” to support optimal operational performance. This is crucial for the oil and gas sector; the choice of the right software serves as a key decision point.
